Session 1 | Caring Conversations About Sexual Violence: Using BARCC’s SEECK Model to Respond to Disclosures of Sexual Violence

Part of Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Program/Social Work Grand Rounds Series

Wednesday, March 08, 2023   Thursday, March 30, 2023: 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

This virtual 4.5-hour webinar series is about learning and expanding on the SEECK Model used by the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center. The training will be divided into three 90-minute sessions.

Each session will build on the ones before, so it is recommended that you attend all three sessions.

Anyone is welcome to attend (i.e., clinicians, mental health professionals, and medical professionals in private practice or at agencies—anyone who works professionally in a clinical setting with survivors in ongoing relationships).

*ADA accommodations for the webinar should be requested via email to simperato@barcc.org no later than March 23, 2023.

Goals

Understand the dynamics of sexual violence, its lifelong impacts, and the effects of the current crisis on survivors. Understand the importance of and increase confidence with handling initial disclosures of sexual violence by addressing safety, empathy, empowerment, connection, and knowledge (SEECK).

Build intervention skills, using a crisis intervention framework and BARCC’s SEECK model, to begin treatment with survivors of sexual violence during the current crises and beyond.

Participants will learn how working with survivors of sexual violence impacts providers/supporters by building an understanding of vicarious trauma, its impact, blocks to self-care, and recognizing the importance of self-care by using the SEECK Model as a guide.

Our mission is to end sexual violence. We empower survivors of sexual violence to heal and provide education and advocacy for social change to prevent sexual violence.
