Giving and receiving support after sexual violence

Why it Matters

Disclosing sexual violence can be scary. Most survivors never tell anyone about their experience because they don’t know how the other person will react. But survivors who are respected and believed experience fewer long-term negative effects from sexual violence. If someone you know has experienced sexual violence, please let them know about BARCC. We provide free, confidential services for survivors and their families and friends, ages 12 and older, regardless of when the violence occurred. Our goal is to empower survivors to heal. We can also help you (links here).

BARCC also works with a wide range of organizations and communities–including schools, colleges, and police–to advocate for change. We train on how to respond to survivors and create cultures that prevent sexual violence in the first place. Our services include the following:

  • 24/7 hotline crisis counseling
  • 24/7 accompaniment to a hospital emergency room
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Legal and immigration assistance
  • Assistance with meeting housing, financial, employment, education, and other needs

Nobody deserves to experience sexual violence. And nobody should have to suffer in silence. Help us help survivors. Together, we can bring about the social change we need to end sexual violence.
