About the BARCC Internship Program
Serving as an intern at BARCC is a meaningful and rewarding experience, and it looks great on a resume.
In general, internships require working eight to 25 hours a week, depending on school requirements. Our interns work alongside BARCC staff in all programs.
Unless otherwise noted, all internships require completion of BARCC’s 40-hour rape crisis counselor training. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory and must be completed before an intern can begin working. Academic year interns complete training in late August; summer interns train in spring.

Guidelines for BARCC Interns
Interning at BARCC is a rewarding experience that brings all those involved into contact with the incredible strength and inspiration of survivors on almost every shift or speaking engagement. Those experiences are also often crisis situations that can be unpredictable and emotionally challenging for volunteers. Many BARCC interns have a personal connection to issues of rape and sexual violence, often creating a strong sense of commitment to the cause. Interning at BARCC can be a wonderful experience for people, when the time is right for them.
Ways to know if it is the right time to intern at BARCC:
- It has been at least 1 year since you became personally connected to this issue.
- It has been at least 1 year since you have stopped receiving BARCC services (medical or legal advocacy, hotline, group or individual counseling).
- You receive counseling now, or have in the past, but do not feel a sense of crisis in your everyday life.
- You are not currently struggling with substance use.
- You have a strong support system in place.
- You feel 100% ready to be a BARCC intern.
