About Our Case Management Services
BARCC’s case management program provides brief consultation, advocacy, and supportive referral assistance to sexual assault survivors around their housing and financial related needs.
A Case manager’s assistance to a survivor may range from one time to ongoing consultation and support on various housing and financial related issues including; emergency housing, affordable housing, public benefits, health insurance, victim’s compensation and other issues that might impact a survivor’s economic stability.
The case management program operates during business hours Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
BARCC’s Case Management interns talk to survivors or their loved ones on the phone or in person, once or many times, to assess for their needs, look for resources that match their needs and explore their eligibility, connect clients to other resources/services. Interns also help clients fill out paperwork for financial, housing, and health insurance resources, go with clients to appointments at other agencies and talk to other providers on a client’s behalf.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Attending a 40-hour Rape Crisis Counselor Certification training
- Attending a 4-5 hour case management-specific training/ orientation
- Committing to covering a hotline shift up to 3-4 hours each week for the entire internship period at BARCC
- Completing assigned case management projects relevant to improving program services.
- Attending coalition/provider meetings when necessary
- Attending weekly individual supervision meetings, and participating in bi-weekly team meetings
Training and Supervision:
Individual weekly supervision occurs with the Case Management Program Director. The BARCC 40-hour Massachusetts Rape Crisis training and 4-5 hour case management-specific training must be completed.
Number of Openings: 1 Full Academic year.
Hourly requirements: At least 16 hours each week for full academic year interns.
Qualifications
We are looking for:
- Foundation Year Graduate Students in the disciplines of Social work, Gender and Women studies, and any human services related field are encouraged to apply. Some direct client work experience on issues of poverty and homelessness, affordable housing, access to public and disability benefits, would be an added advantage–or;
- Undergraduate (preferably senior year) students in any of the above related disciplines with similar working experience are also encouraged to apply.
Fluency or working knowledge in Spanish and / or Haitian Creole/ French is a plus for interested applicants.
This internship position does not include a stipend.
