Did you know that Giving Tuesday is just 12 years old, while day-after-Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping has been around since the 1950s?

In just 12 years, Giving Tuesday has grown into one of the most significant days of the year for supporting charitable causes. It has become critically important to nonprofits like BARCC. We rely on the generous support of BARCC donors on Giving Tuesday to plan how we will help survivors in Boston and beyond in 2025.

We understand that you may hear from many worthy causes this Giving Tuesday, and we would be truly grateful if you chose BARCC for your Giving Tuesday donation.

A question we frequently hear from people considering a donation to BARCC is: How will my donation make an impact?

At BARCC, we don’t just tell our donors about the impact of their generosity—we can show them. Here are five ways that BARCC donors have helped support survivors and advance the mission to end sexual violence so far in 2024:

1) Free and Immediate Help for Survivors: You enabled thousands of survivors to access free and immediate support through our 24-hour hotline (available in English and Spanish), online web chat, and more. During a crisis, this support can be life-changing for survivors.

2) You Helped Pass the 2024 VOCA Bridge: You helped our team organize and rally to convince the Massachusetts legislature to pass vital survivor services funding.

3) Sexual Violence Prevention Trainings and Workshop: Your contributions allowed us to deliver impactful sexual violence prevention trainings and workshops to schools, police departments, businesses, and community-based organizations.

4) Supporting Survivors in Hospitals: When survivors of sexual violence go to the hospital, you’re helping to connect them to BARCC trained medical advocates, who can help them through the process of medical and legal decisions.

5) BARCC’s New and Improved Website: You helped us build a more functional, modern website that better connects survivors with immediate and ongoing support.

Your contribution to BARCC, no matter the size, directly impacts the lives of survivors in our community and helps reach those who need us, everywhere.

Thank you sincerely, from the whole team here at BARCC for considering us on Giving Tuesday. We recognize that without you, our work would not be possible.
