Why
Help raise awareness and funds to support survivors of sexual violence. Your support helps BARCC continue to provide free, trauma-informed care to survivors. It also enables BARCC to advocate for policies and strategies that help prevent sexual violence from happening in the first place.
How
Secure your spot at the 2024 Walk for Change now by registering! You can participate as an individual or as part of a team.
Save the date: on December 19 the Prudential Center will be lit up purple and orange! Those are the colors of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, and we’re shining in support of survivors of sexual violence.
The color change at the top of Boston’s iconic building is part of the 31 Nights of Light, a program founded in 2009 to celebrate Boston-area organizations and draw attention to the work they do in Boston and beyond.
The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) has provided free and confidential services to survivors of sexual violence and their loved ones in the Greater Boston area for 45 years. Services include one-on-one counseling, group counseling, legal advocacy, support at local emergency rooms, assistance with financial and housing challenges, and a 24-7 hotline (800-841-8371) that survivors and their loved ones can call for support.
We also advocate for policy changes that support survivors, and educate the community on topics of sexual violence in an effort to stop it from happening in the first place.
The term “sexual violence” refers to a spectrum, and includes everything from harassment to assault. Sexual violence affects everyone: men, women, and people who identify outside of the gender binary. It can happen regardless of ZIP code or background, and no matter what, it’s never the survivor’s fault.
“We’re excited for this unique opportunity to showcase support for survivors and generate awareness of our free, confidential services for survivors and their families and friends,” said Gina Scaramella, BARCC executive director. “We hope the lights will inspire people to learn more, get involved, and take action to end sexual violence.”
Tag us in your photos to let us know you saw the Prudential Center #ShineForSurvivors! We’re on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
To celebrate the BARCC colors on display at the top of the Prudential Center, we’re holding a “flip the switch” event (you can RSVP on Facebook!) in the Prudential’s Center Court at 6:00 p.m. on December 19, with an info table with resources and a short speaking program.
Keep an eye out for more colorful displays from the Prudential Center, which will be using its state-of-the-art LED lighting system to change the color of the 51st floor daily throughout December to honor participating community organizations.
We encourage you to learn more about BARCC, our services, and how you can get involved.
