We’re less than two months away from BARCC’s 19th Annual Walk For Change, and this week’s weather forecast in Boston calls for some signs of spring, with weather in the high 50s and low 60s – definite outdoor weather!

It looks like a great week to get some extended time outside, so here’s a reminder of five great benefits from walking.

We would also love for you to make plans to join us for the Walk for Change! The Walk will take place on April 27 at DCR’s Constitution Beach in East Boston, and you can register for the event today. All proceeds from BARCC’s Walk for Change help prevent sexual violence and provide free support for survivors.

Five great reasons to incorporate walking into your weekly routine:

  1. Improve Cardiovascular Health

Regular walking strengthens the heart, lowers blood pressure, and improves circulation, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

  1. Strengthen Your Bones and Joints

Engaging in regular walking helps maintain bone density and joint health. It strengthens the muscles that support your joints, reducing the risk of bone disease and joint ailments.

  1. Enhance Your Mental Well-being

Walking isn’t just beneficial for your physical health; it also significantly boosts your mental well-being. Regular walking can improve mood, reduce stress, and enhance overall emotional health.

  1. Achieve Daily Exercise Goals

For those who participate in Walk for Change, you can feel good going in knowing that you’ll get good exercise in a scenic location, but it doesn’t have to be overly rigorous. It’s not a race.

Many Walk for Change participants choose to walk at a leisurely pace, and some all are welcome to bring their young children and dogs with them.

  1. It’s Easy To Walk Together!

Unlike many exercise activities, walking is an easy activity to do socially alongside friends, colleagues and family. When you participate in Walk for Change, you’ll be walking with a community of survivors and supporters.

You can register as a group/team or as an individual. If you’re participating as an individual but prefer not to walk alone, we’ll have dedicated BARCC volunteers on hand, ready to walk alongside you.

If you have any questions about this year’s Walk for Change event, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our BARCC team at communications@barcc.org. We’d love to help!
