These are some of the issues that youth-serving organizations frequently encounter and often leave them feeling challenged and unsure about how to respond. Through work with programs that serve youth, BE SAFE, a collaboration of Boston-based organizations, has learned that a major area of need for these organizations is the development of policies and procedures to address the interconnected health issues that youth face. But they don’t know where to start. Researchers at National Institute on Out-of-School Time along with BE SAFE developed the Program Climate Self-Assessment Observation Tool to help programs that serve youth determine what areas they are doing well in and what areas they could further improve.
