On the Chauvin Verdict

Content note: Chauvin trial, racism, police violence.

In addition to the trauma of sexual violence, Black survivors are also navigating the long-standing trauma of experiencing racism—individual and systemic—and police violence in the United States.

We know that the past several weeks of the Derek Chauvin trial for the killing of George Floyd have been intense. Today’s guilty verdicts are welcome—and we know that they are only one small step in the work to advance racial justice.

At BARCC, we recognize that violence in all its forms is rooted in oppression, and our vision is a world free of all forms of oppression. For more of our thoughts on police violence and the intersections of racism and sexual violence, please read our statement from last summer.

#BlackLivesMatter

Our mission is to end sexual violence. We empower survivors of sexual violence to heal and provide education and advocacy for social change to prevent sexual violence.
