Each June, Pride Month is a time to honor the strength and resilience of the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a celebration rooted in resistance and a reminder that the fight for equality and dignity is ongoing. At BARCC, we join in that call. We are proud to support and stand with LGBTQ+ individuals, and we remain committed to our mission: to support all survivors of sexual violence—no matter their gender identity, sexual orientation, or background.

How BARCC Supports LGBTQ+ Survivors

At BARCC, we understand that healing is deeply personal and shaped by each survivor’s identity and experience. We work to ensure that our services are inclusive, culturally competent, and trauma informed.

Here’s how we support LGBTQ+ survivors every day:

  • Free, Confidential Services for All: BARCC offers free counseling, legal advocacy, and medical accompaniment for survivors of all genders and sexual orientations. Whether you’re looking for emotional support, help navigating systems, or someone to talk to, we are here.
  • Advocacy for Inclusive Policies: We push for systems-level change that protects LGBTQ+ rights, including access to safe housing, healthcare, and survivor-centered legal reforms.
  • Community Education and Prevention: We provide inclusive sexual violence prevention programming to schools, organizations, and community groups, recognizing that effective prevention must challenge homophobia, transphobia, and other intersecting forms of oppression.

Pride Is Personal. Safety Is a Right.

Sexual violence does not discriminate—but support systems sometimes do. That’s why we are committed to breaking down barriers to care and creating spaces where LGBTQ+ survivors are not just welcomed, but fully seen and respected.

To every LGBTQ+ survivor: You deserve safety. You deserve healing. You deserve to be heard—and we believe you.

Join Us in Celebrating and Advocating

This Pride Month, we encourage our community to:

  • Attend local Pride events, including those centered on trans and queer people of color
  • Educate yourself and others about LGBTQ+ experiences and histories
  • Donate to LGBTQ+ organizations doing critical work year-round
  • Challenge discriminatory language and attitudes wherever you encounter them
  • Share resources like BARCC’s services with friends, family, and networks

Together, We Build a Safer, More Just Future

Pride Month reminds us that change is possible—and that it takes all of us. At BARCC, we are proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community not just in June, but every day.

Let’s continue working together toward a world where every survivor—regardless of who they are—can heal in safety, dignity, and pride.
