Confidentiality and Privacy

Protecting your privacy can feel especially important after a sexual assault. BARCC has strict confidentiality policies.

All written and verbal communication concerning a client is kept private and will not be shared with anyone outside BARCC unless the client says it’s OK in writing—except as required by law in three cases:

  • If we believe that a client is at high risk to hurt themselves or someone else
  • If we believe that a child under 18, an adult 60 and over, or a person 18–59 with a disability requiring assistance with activities of daily living, is being physically, emotionally or sexually abused, or neglected
  • If ordered by a court; if you think you might be involved in a court case, please talk with a BARCC legal advocate about your privacy and confidentiality rights

We will tell you when we are required to make a report and what information we will share. We will not share more than what is required by law.

You may choose what information you want to provide to BARCC. You will not be denied services if you choose not to tell us certain identifying information, including immigration status.

SMS / Text Message Communications

BARCC may send text messages to individuals who have opted in to receive them, including appointment reminders, program updates, event information, and follow-up communications with BARCC client service providers.

Your information stays with us. We collect your mobile number only when you provide it voluntarily. Information collected during the SMS opt-in process, including your phone number, is never sold, shared, or disclosed to third parties for marketing or any other purpose.

Confidentiality is central to our work. We treat all contact information with the same strict confidentiality we extend to every person who reaches out to BARCC.

Opting out is easy. Reply STOP at any time to unsubscribe, or contact us at info@barcc.org or 617-492-8306. Reply HELP for assistance. Message frequency may vary. Message and data rates may apply.

Website Privacy & Safety

Browsing Safely

You can exit this site at any time using the “Exit Site” link in the menu.

If you are worried about someone else knowing that you visited this website, you can delete your browsing history, cookies, and cached files. Instructions for common browsers are below.

Cookies & Analytics

Our site uses cookies — small files stored on your computer that allow websites to remember you and save your preferences.

We use Google Analytics, including Demographics and Interest Reporting, to understand how many people visit our site and general information about visitors in aggregate. Google Analytics does not enable us to access data on individual users, and we do not use it for remarketing purposes. Our web server also recognizes but does not collect or store your IP address; we use only anonymous, aggregate data to understand site usage.

How to Delete Your Browsing History & Cookies

Google Chrome: Click the wrench/menu icon > Settings > Under the Hood > Content Settings > Cookies > Show Cookies. Click Remove All to delete all cookies, or select specific sites to remove individually.

Safari: Go to Safari menu > Preferences > Security > Show Cookies. Select cookies to delete and click Delete.

Supporter & Donation Security

BARCC understands the importance of protecting your personal information. Giving a tax-deductible donation to BARCC is safe — credit card information is protected by a reputable security company and numbers are never stored.

Our donation pages use HTTPS encryption, which makes your online donation more secure than using a credit card in a physical store. Look for “https” at the beginning of the URL in your browser’s address bar.

Questions about online donation security? Contact us at fundraising@barcc.org.

Email Communications

If you would like to opt out of email communications at any time, click the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of any BARCC email, or contact us at communications@barcc.org to be removed from our list.

When you donate to BARCC, you are placed on our mailing lists for mail and email updates. If you do not wish to receive physical mail, contact fundraising@barcc.org. If you make a donation in honor or memory of someone, we will not use their personal information for any purpose other than to send an acknowledgment card.

Other Personal Information

You are not required to provide any personal information on our website unless you choose to do so. We ask for personal information on our donation pages only to properly process gifts and acknowledge receipt for tax purposes.

Our website may contain links to other sites whose privacy policies may differ from ours. BARCC is not responsible for the privacy policies or content of those sites.

If you feel that your privacy has been violated or that BARCC has misused your information in any way, please contact us.

Use of Friendly Captcha

We use Friendly Captcha on this website to protect against spam and abuse. Friendly Captcha is a privacy-compliant and accessible alternative to traditional CAPTCHAs.
