BARCC Unveils New Boston Location in Grove Hall

Collaborative Efforts with Casa Myrna Support Survivors of Sexual Violence

The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center (BARCC) announces a new Boston location in the Grove Hall neighborhood thanks to their ongoing partnership with Casa Myrna, Boston’s largest provider of domestic violence awareness efforts and shelter and supportive services to survivors. 

“Together, our organizations are committed to ensuring that survivors of sexual violence in the local Boston community have access to the support they need,” says BARCC’s interim executive director, Duane de Four. “We’re grateful for Casa Myrna’s hospitality and look forward to providing all of our clients with more comprehensive support.”

While BARCC's main headquarters will remain at 99 Bishop Allen Drive in Cambridge, this new location at 451 Blue Hill Avenue will help BARCC progress toward its strategic goal of building stronger relationships among communities of color. BARCC and Casa Myrna have had a collaborative relationship for over 15 years and currently are named partners in a Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Survivors’ Safety Trust fund collaborative project. 

Throughout the years, the agencies have engaged in a concerted effort to support each other's services by sharing resources, skills, and expertise. BARCC and Casa Myrna leverage individual and joint resources to better serve clients and shared communities.

The building is named in honor of Rubina Ann Guscott, a beloved Boston community leader and civil rights activist who died at the age of 102 in 2002 after a lifetime of fighting for justice and equality. Rubina’s powerful legacy will inspire BARCC’s work in the new Boston location.

“We want to make sure that people know that when they call BARCC, they’ll reach someone who believes them, who they can trust, and who will help them get whatever support they need in the aftermath of sexual violence,” says de Four. “This new location will help survivors know that we have a safe location in their neighborhood.”

Founded in 1973, the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center has a mission to end sexual violence through healing and social change. BARCC provides free, confidential support and services to all survivors of sexual violence ages 12 and up and their families and friends throughout Greater Boston. It works with survivors from the immediate crisis after sexual violence to years and decades later, and its goal is to empower survivors to heal and seek justice. BARCC also works with a wide range of organizations and communities, including schools, colleges, and police, to advocate for change.
