DCR’s Constitution Beach in East Boston
Why
Help raise awareness and funds to support survivors of sexual violence. Your support helps BARCC continue to provide free, trauma-informed care to survivors. It also enables BARCC to advocate for policies and strategies that help prevent sexual violence from happening in the first place.
How
Secure your spot at the 2024 Walk for Change now by registering! You can participate as an individual or as part of a team.
Cats may rule the internet, but on the streets of Boston, dogs have a special place. That’s why we welcome you to register your pooch to participate in BARCC’s Walk for Change on Sunday, April 23. You’ve gotta register and accompany your four-legged friend, too, though.* Someone needs to hold Fido’s leash, right?
The presence of your pawed pal on our 2.6-mile trek is just one of the things that makes our Walk for Change such a fun-filled event. You can add to the fun by outfitting your pet in a stylish #Bark4BARCC bandana, available when you register online and for sale at the event.
On a more serious note, the healing power of dogs is a no-brainer. Therapy dogs and service dogs have been used in a variety of settings to help survivors of trauma, including sexual assault survivors. Research has documented the many human benefits from interactions with dogs, such as experiencing decreased levels of stress hormones and lower blood pressure merely from petting a dog. While the dogs that participate in the Walk for Change aren’t there specifically for therapeutic purposes, the sight of friendly, tail-wagging participants is sure to spread smiles.
So, what are you waiting for? Register your dog to join you at the BARCC Walk for Change today. Your dog will thank you—Especially for Pets is donating treats and toys for dogs that #Bark4BARCC. One last important note: please make sure that your dog is well socialized for large crowds, as we’re expecting a big turnout this year!
