Media: Larry Nassar Isn’t The Only Doctor Accused of Molesting Patients

STAT News Logo

A former BARCC hotline volunteer and practicing physician wrote an article about the issue of sexual assault in the medical field for STAT news. The author outlines the ways in which physicians are protected from consequences for predatory behavior, including the physician-as-hero trope, enabling from peers in leadership, and private disciplinary records.

Excerpt: "We must confront the culture of medicine that dissuades physicians from reporting our colleague’s 'bad behavior,' including conduct much less egregious than sexual assault. We must also advocate for independence in systems that hold physicians accountable."
