High School
The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center is committed to providing materials and support to high school educators interested in preventing sexual violence.
Curriculum
The Boston Area Rape Crisis Center has led hundreds of workshops for high school students over the last 20 years. We want to share this experience with other educators.
We have prepared a formal curriculum for our most popular workshop. Each curriculum includes:
- An Overview that includes: instructor qualifications, recommended length, intended audience, a short description including the goals and required materials.
- The research foundation for the curriculum.
- The logic model or reason that we think that this curriculum will meet its goals.
- In depth instructions for each activity including learning objectives, detailed trainers notes, and questions to expect.
- Handouts.
Understanding Sexual Violence
This multiple session curriculum offers an in-depth look at some of the root causes of sexual violence in our society. The curriculum is highly interactive and written for high school aged youth. It is made up of group discussion, debates, role-plays, and media arts projects. Topics include gender stereotypes, oppression, healthy relationships, teen dating violence, sexual violence, and community prevention strategies. The objective of this multiple session curriculum is to change community attitudes and beliefs about sexual violence in order to create more supportive communities for survivors, decrease norms that support sexually inappropriate behaviors, and eventually eliminate sexual violence in the community.
